Luther's Practical Advice on Honoring the Saints

Here's a snippet from The Festival Sermons of Martin Luther on the best way to honor the saints.

The entire sermon is an interesting read. Luther goes on to describe the proper way to honor departed saints, as well as offering a few tips on how or if one should pray for the dead (he makes similar comments in the treatise, Confession Concerning Christ's Supper, see my discussion here about prayers for the dead).

Martin Luther was a selfish egotistical man. I can easily prove it to you. Martin has 6 letters and Luther has 6 letters, how many books do Martin (6) Luther (6) Bibles (6) have? It is not 65 or 67 but 66 so Martin Luther could see his name as the author.

Is Martin Luther the ONE MAN you will celebrate in 1517? As a protestant you think this one man (1) Martin (6) Luther (6) =13 traces back to Jesus or you think this one man (1) Martin (M=13), Luther (L=12)= 26 spent half his life 31.5 years Catholic and 31.5 years not (Catholics just see him as dividing Christ's Church) so 26÷2=13. That's 13. What did he create? Martin Luther Bibles = 6+6+6=18. His creation is 18. That's 13:18. Where in any Holy Bible do you find 13:18 and the selfish, egotistical number 666?

People do not believe God sent His Son and it is because we are not one, we are not unified. What created the split in Jesus Church? Martin (6) Luther (6) Bibles (6). It is time for Shepherd's and teachers of Christ's Sheep to repent. The Lord draws near.

I was never good in math, and I flunked out of theomatics so I would have never figured this out. :-)

Oh my goodness. That may be the strangest claim I have ever seen.

Let's look at the claims of Jay Lynn White soberly (although I know it may be difficult). I actually do kinda sorta like math so I'll play along. Jay correctly stated the number of letters in Martin Luther's name and the word "Bibles".

So that's where Jay is correct. Let's move onto where Jay isn't.

Me:
No. We celebrate the freedom of religious liberty that took off due to the events that we attribute to Martin Luther's actions on Reformation Day. It is not the Reformed that make Martin Luther some kind of an infallible representative of Christ on Earth. It is the Roman Catholic Church who has mutated the role of the Bishop of Rome to be the Vicar of Christ. I see no Biblical, historical, or logical claim that would compell me to believe otherwise.

Man, this guy is good! Jay just cracked our Reformation code! Now our whole theological system will crumble because Jay found us out. Well, back to reality. Jay made some dubious claims that make his statement and code fail.

From what I can tell, Luther lived to be just over 62 years and 3 months old, not 63 years old. Am I splitting hairs? I'll move on.

Next Jay claims that Luther spent 31.5 years as a Roman Catholic. I'm willing to give a few months here or there for that statement, but let's look at facts first. Luther was born on November 10 1483. 31.5 years after that would be May 10 1515. I don't recall anything happening at that date or even near that date. Luther didn't even post the 95 thesis until almost 2.5 years later. And then if I've read history correctly (feel free to correct me), Luther was excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church on May 25 1521. At that point Luther was 37.5 years old. That makes Jay off by 6 years! This makes the rest of Jay's code look even more ridiculous than it already is.

There are many reasons why people don't accept the Son of God, and you are sort of correct. But I'm not going to align myself with a church that has mutated the Bible, history, and logic, just to puff itself up. It is said that the Roman Catholic Church has an unbroken chain of successors all the way down to Peter himself, yet the word unbroken can't be defined. It is said that the Roman Catholic Church has never changed an essential element of it's doctrines, yet it can't define what the word essential means.

Jay, you're correct that the Lord draws near and I look forward to that. But I will not subscribe myself to a church that encourages people to chase after so many ungodly myths.

God Bless.
