Dr. Hargrave addresses Southern Baptists & Calvinism

An astute reader informed me of this video. As the screen shots tell us, yet again, Calvinism and hyper-Calvinism must be distinguished from one another for SBCers. Gene Bridges recently addressed this same issue. Dr. Hargrave gives an important message to consider in the SBC.

Dr. Hargrave talks about labels and being honest about them. I will just give one quote from the video.
What works has become more important than what is true in our pulpits and in our congregations. We have become less theological in our denomination.

Good stuff!

Thanks, Mark, for that great posting. I was thoroughly captivated by Dr. Hargrave's talk. He has a very effective way of making God's truth come alive. I especially liked what he had to say on the particular redemption of our Lord Christ's atonement (bold emphasis represents his inflection):

Regarding the Jewish Day of Atonement:

"Now when the High Priest went into the Holy of you believe that that High Priest thought in any way, shape, form or fashion that he was making an atonement, by way of type, for anybody other than those inside the covenant? He was not making that atonement for gentile nations. He was making that for all who were in the covenant; those boys, those men who had been circumcised, those were the only people who were in that covenant."

Kinda puts a damper on that universalism thingy. It seems so obvious when stated that way. I will not forget it.

Blessings in Christ,
