A Recent Catholic Answers Visit

I came out from the shadows over at the Catholic Answers forums, participating on the subject of the Apocrypha and Luther. I have no idea why I've yet to be banned from Catholic Answers. I've been there since May, 2004. I think I must not be being clear enough. It actually makes me wonder if I'm really presenting the truth in my posts.

Also, for a bit of Romanist love, there is a recent Catholic Answers thread on Dr. White. These typically get deleted by the Catholic Answers moderators once they reach frenzy level. This thread I've dubbed, "the gift that keeps on giving." Every time I go back to visit it, it just keeps getting wackier. Here's a fun little nugget of nastiness:

He then edits the tape and sells it to his followers or anyone gullible enough to buy one. I wonder what would happen to Mr. White if everyone did as Scott Hahn did?

Indeed…the following are a few of those “nugget[s] of nastiness”:

    >>Dr. James White is one of the better debaters amongst protestants. He is wrong, but he is one of their better minions.>>

    >>I'm Catholic, but I do really enjoy listening to Dr. White.

He is also my go-to guy for understanding Reformed Theology.

I particularly enjoy watching his videos on Islam - his material has made up the majority of my formation with regards to Islamic Apologetics (to which, of course, I have added some Catholic goodness).>>

    >>As a Catholic, I've listened to James White for a couple of years now. Much of what he has had to say I have found useful and has helped me understand the church as a whole. I find his style can be rather overly aggressive and ad hom on his radio show (though he is calm and respectful to people in debates, so perhaps he just likes to add a little spice to his radio show). But my uneasiness with his style could just be a cultural thing, as we're not quite so up-front in the UK. He is a very good debater, and sometimes (as with all debates) you have to allow yourself a little time to reflect on things and separate out the essential arguments from the debating skills.>>

Try finding similar comments from Genevanists when commenting on popular Catholic apologists (Jimmy Akin, Steve Ray, Tim Staples, Robert Sungenis) on like forums/sites (e.g. “The Puritan Board”, “Triablogue”, etc.).

  2. David Waltz, are you still a papist, or am I confusing you with someone else? I thought you had converted or something.

  3. David,

I never stated every comment on the thread was equally nasty.

I don't think I could truthfully make similar comments about these people, so it doesn't suprise me that "Genevanists" likewise don't offer such comments.

  4. What's funny is the guy that was speaking "graciously" of Dr. White seems to have turned on him after the program today.

  5. "Try finding similar comments from Genevanists when commenting on popular Catholic apologists"

Show me where said apologists have debated Muslims and atheists to the extent and with the success Dr. White has.

  6. Ironically, some of the best responses on that thread were posts with links to situations where White had either lost a debate, was wrong about an important claim, or simply made unsubstantiated assertions.

I have in mind posts such as #16. There is even material as recent as March 2010, to which White made some pretty bold claims but were shown to have problems in his logic.

Me: I am no longer Roman Catholic; have not attended Mass since the end of 12/2009 (SEE THIS THREAD FOR DETAILS).

You've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?"
