To Mary, For Heretics

A prayer from the 1910 Edition of The Raccolta or Collection of Indulgenced Prayer and Good Works:

Prayer for the Conversion of Heretics and Schismatics.

O MARY, Mother of mercy and Refuge of sinners, we beseech thee to look with pitying- eyes on heretical and schismatical nations. Do thou, who art the Seat of wisdom, illuminate their minds, wretchedly involved in the darkness of ignorance and sin, that they may know the Holy, Catholic, Apostolic, Roman Church to be the only true Church of JESUS CHRIST, out of which no sanctity or salvation can be found. Finally, complete their conversion by obtaining- for them the grace to believe every truth of our holy Faith, and to submit to the Sovereign Roman Pontiff, the Vicar of JESUS CHRIST on earth, that thus, being soon united to us by the bonds of divine charity, they may make with us but one fold under one and the same pastor, and that we may thus, O glorious Virgin, all sing exultingly for ever, "Rejoice, O Virgin Mary! alone thou hast destroyed all heresies in the whole world." Amen. (source, pg. 205)

  1. Does this smell of polytheism? They could just as well be praying to Ganesha.

  2. "...ALONE thou hast destroyed all heresies in the whole world."

    Blasphemy indeed.

  3. So Mary is the:

    "Refuge of sinners"
    "Seat of Wisdom"
    Illuminator of minds
    Completer of conversions
    Destroyer of heresies

Not to mention our perfectly sinless co-redeemer.

Just wanted to make sure we had that straight.

  5. Ah yes, here is an example of what every RC should have known better...

lex orandi lex credendi lex vivendi.

The way we pray is the way we believe and the way we live.

Contrary to some belief, the way you pray speaks tons of what your theology is.

  6. Notice that the conversion prayed for is not to Jesus but to THE church and submission to the Pope.

  7. Hey Billy, what is the first image supposed to symbolize? Explain it to us. What is the biblical basis of the image?

  8. Apparently the basis for the image is a Marian apparition from the 14th century.

  11. I don't see the problem with that prayer. What's the big deal?

  13. Quite a prayer:

The writer has turned belief in Christ as being the gateway into the Church to belief in the Church being the gateway to Christ.

You've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?"
