I think that you would be rewarded to read Dr. Reinhard Hutter's article, titled "Relinquishing the Principle of Private Judgment in Matters of Divine Truth: A Protestant Theologian's Journey into the Catholic Church" (Nova et Vetera, English Edition,Vol. 9, No. 4 (2011): 865–81).
