  1. Ok, so what? What are you implying? Are you a Catholic news blog now?

"What's the point of this? Are you here to defend the reformation, or to take any available dig at Catholics? I don't mean to sound snippy, but why even bother with this?"

Kind of defensive aren't we, fellas?

  4. Andrew,

I suggest doing a study on Luther's view of monasticism, and then contrasting it with this statement:

Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Jesuits:

That we may be altogether of the same mind and in conformity with the Church herself, if she shall have defined anything to be black which to our eyes appears to be white, we ought in like manner to pronounce it black. - [St. Ignatius Loyola, "Rules for Thinking with the Church", Rule 13, (cited from: Documents of the Christian Church, pp. 364-365, ed. Henry Bettenson, New York and London: Oxford University Press, 1947.)]

Perhaps I'm a bit more in the spirit of Reformation than you think.

  6. Just out of curiousity, to those of you who dislike this particualr blog entry, I'm curious as to whether you visited the Catholic blog I got this particualr news event from (which i linked to), and voiced similar dissatisfaction...

    ...If not...why?

  7. James that blog is a Catholic blog that puts on Catholic news. I didn't think you were in that business. That would be like me putting up an article of a "reformed" Church closing down or something. Not sure what your aiming at here. Anyways.

  8. Matthew,

If you check this blog, I have posted news stories before. Also, I was actually the point of the entry was more about the recent government bail out money scheme.

  10. Plus, we're not big fans of the RCC around here.

Confronted by scores of lawsuits alleging sex abuse by priests

    Scores. In Oregon.

  12. Uhmm people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. There are 260 abuse cases a year reported by Protestants to only 224 a year among Catholics. This is the report from insurance companies. So don't go throwing stones when you live in a glass house. Scores of Protestants.

    Hi Matthew,

Could you post the source for this data please?

    Thanks

  14. The source is the Insurance Journal, which reports insurance cases that are reported each year in various business sectors. You can find one article here on the subject. Enjoy.

    http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/national/2007/06/18/80877.htm

There is also a Protestant website that has news article links to various abuse cases by Protestants. The message here is don't go around spouting off about abuse cases in other Churches until you clean up your own.

Don't like my suspenders eh? Well....um.....yeah nobody does. I like them, but that's about it.
I don't think you are required to meet any kind of standards for your commenters. I am a commenter and I commented. That was my opinion. I am often wrong and I may be here, but I am going down with the ship. God bless. That goes for Mr. Swan as well. I do enjoy the blog, but am sometimes compelled to play devil's advocate. Every conversation needs one of those. That's usually me in real life too.

  17. Andrew,

Things are cool. You are free to voice your opinion. I've heard somewhere that "iron sharpens iron..."

  18. Hi Andrew,

Just expressing my opinion as well. Please don't think I was trying to keep you from expressing yours.

And for the record, I love your picture. It's fun.

  19. Thank you Mr. Swan. I want to express that I have a high degree of respect for you, and that I didn't mean to "call you out" or anything like that. Maybe I should think before I hit enter?

You've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?"
