They are distinct though indeed related but they are not the sides of the same coin.

As also a Lutheran, contra Martin Yee's statement that Luther believed in objective justification on Rom 4:25, I like to see that exposition. There is objective atonement but there is no objective justification in the sense of what many Waltherians teach - that by virtue of the Cross/Resurrection - God HAS ALREADY declared the whole world justified in Christ. You can see this mis-speaking way in LC-MS 1932 Brief Statement Article 17a. There is no place in the Bible that says that by virtue of Christ's Atonement everyone has already been declared righteous (ie forgiven because that is tantamount to justification).

LPCLPChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15887169410291453228noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19795707.post-50418936582778846212015-02-26T00:32:56.345-05:002015-02-26T00:32:56.345-05:00James, thanks for your always fair treatment of Lu...James, thanks for your always fair treatment of Luther and Luther's theology. Why some are saved and some not he leaves for us to understand in the light of glory. Not my problem.
