Finger of God: How to Respond?

Ken's recent blog entry has prompted me to post a video series that a good Pentecostal friend recently attempted to indoctrinate me with: Finger of God. My friend was quite smitten by the entire thing. After we watched most of it, we had a lengthy (and at times intense) discussion. In my opinion, it is a detailed theology of glory.

I post this for my Reformed brothers and sisters. Watch a little of it, and let me know in a paragraph what you think the basic flaw is.

This is part one. The rest can be found here:

theology of Glory = ?

meaning as opposed to the theology of the cross ?

theology of the cross = reality of suffering, trials, pain, persecution, mysteries, unknowns, sickness, unexplainable tragedies - right?

Theology of glory = expecting perfection and healing and success and happiness all the time now on earth. ( ?- right ?

John Arnot is suspect because of the Toronto Blessing weirdness.

I heard about love and miracles and prayers in Jesus' name and covering in the blood, etc. - but there was not anything about repentance, sin, the cross, explanation of "the blood of Christ", meaning the holy violence of God against sin, - they just say the words "the blood of Jesus".

Hard to argue against the camera - it shows you want it wants you to see. hard to believe the gold dust, jewels, and gold teeth stories.

The gold crowns look like fine restorations, excellent choice of material for mandibular molars. I am very glad it was not ceramic.

However, you'd think God's miracles would not have required a crutch like a crown but would have restored the original enamel and dentin along with a healthy periodontium and bone support.

This whole thing is built on "action." It was begun and motivated by seeing something odd, and accepting the word of man. And the whole movie was one long exhibition of the authority of man's word. There was an absolute dearth of the actual Word of God. There was what, maybe one verse (repeated), Jn.14:12? No exegesis; just blurting the text, as if it was self-evident justification for everything we saw.

I think this is a beautiful little summary of the kinds of theology:

Ok, I have listened to and watch all of the videos.

Here's my first thoughts, most likely because Heidi Baker was more prominent near the end of the video series:

Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Now, for my few paragraphs of thought and mindset about what I experienced watching these videos.

Imagine a floor fan, one of those fans that are about 2 feet high, 2 feet wide and there is a propeller in the middle that goes around and around "smoothly". Well watching this series was like a fan I turned on one day that had one of the propeller fans broken off. It still worked. It still turned over. But, the vibration and noise was so loud and annoying you just couldn't be in the room with it on!

Watching this series was just like that. There was a lot of truth in what we saw, especially the Scriptures. The problem is though is there is a lot of foundational scriptures missing from it. If one remains under this sort of spiritual movement and practice, one is going to end up, ironically, in my view, sounding like clanning cymbals and brass; ESV "... noisy gong or a clanging cymbal".

You are really being seduced into becoming adulterous and evil, because, as you go through these videos, a sense of condemnation comes over you as your urge increases to see signs and wonders, which we have learned from the Lord only evil and adulterous nations seeks after such!
