"We believe the fifth Marian Dogma will help protect us from disasters"

News from Zenit: A Marian Offense for Benedict XVI

"Some might argue that because of the existing attacks on the Holy Father, the last thing he should do is to spark more controversy with a Marian dogma on Mary's spiritual motherhood. But Catholic history and faith combine to show that when the Church has faced its greatest battles, whether it be Roman persecutions in the early centuries, battles from foreign invaders at places like Lepanto and Vienna in later centuries, or secular and media assaults in the third millennium, going to Mary with conviction and fortitude effects a release of grace that empowers, protects, and sanctifies the Church in ways that only can only be described as supernatural.

Could we not be facing a parallel situation in our own day, with the world’s secular media and even some mistaken members of the Church are clamoring for the resignation of our beloved Holy Father amidst international ecclesiastical crisis?

Perhaps we need the same Marian remedy, when all human efforts of diplomacy and justice seem to be far from sufficient for the present crises facing the Church and the Papacy -- a Marian proclamation which recognizes Mary’s roles of intercession and in so doing, brings them powerfully and historically into full action for our Church and for our Pope today."

Mother most gentle,
you know each one by name,
you know each one’s face and personal history,
and you love them all
with maternal benevolence
that wells up from the very heart of Divine Love.

Spiritual Motherhood?Pretty non offensive to the other so called "one true churches" not in communion with Rome. I didn`t think he would have the intestional fortitude to go all the way with "Co-Redemptrix"

I'm very glad the lines are being drawn this way. This is one area where things can only be helped by clearing the air.

Set aside, for a moment, the desire to find in Scripture this idea that Mary knows us they way Benedict prays. Where does the RCC derive this thought from?

Well, if you can't find it in Scripture then it must be part of Tradition. Case closed.

Were not all the Roman persecutions of Christians during the first 3 centuries of the Church?

Didn't the Marian innovations come about from spurious/apochraphal documents in the 4th, and 5th centuries?

Ahhh, don't think the early church was praying to Mary for anything at this point.

An example of Romanist historical revisionism perhaps?

Carrie, I don't see it in Scripture. I just wonder how the RCC and Orthodox came up with the Marian doctrines? I may be morbidly interested in how Tradition develops over and against Scripture....

I meant to say, "I don't see it in Scripture, either"

Mary is the linchpin in their system: The exaltation of the human in regards to the divine.

"I entrust and consecrate them all to you,
Mary Most Holy,
Mother of God and our Mother."

No prayer to Mary there.

Quite so. Just take John Henry Newman's word for it:

http://www.sounddoctrine.net/Classic_Sermons/George%20Salmon/infallibility_church.htm

"Just imagine what a comfort it must have been to a poor Roman Catholic divine who had been making a despairing struggle to refute, let us say, the Protestant assertion that the Church of the first three centuries knew nothing of the Invocation of the Blessed Virgin, to be told that he need have no scruple in granting all that his opponents had asserted.

Dr. Newman himself, disclaiming the doctrine that the Invocation of the Virgin is necessary to salvation, says (Letter to Pusey, p. III): 'If it were so, there would be grave reasons for doubting of the salvation of St. Chrysostom or St. Athanasius, or of the primitive martyrs. Nay, I should like to know whether St. Augustine, in all his voluminous writings, invokes her once.'"

You must realize that in the RC worldview, Mary stands as a symbol of "The Church".

So when the RCC is praising and exalting Mary, it is actually praising and exalting ITSELF. Classic idolatrous projection.

Its a good thing they removed the second commandment to get around that annoying little issue.

Please read this paper. You will see the messages of Mary, and the darkness of the spirit behind her. she claims things, no one who knows and loves, and believes in theLord Jesus Christ would ever claim. test the spirit! We are told over and over to do so in scripture.
