A week and a half ago, he set Patrick Madrid straight....now, the Art Of Attack goes after Robert Sungenis...

"I call on Bob Sungenis as a professed loyal son of the Catholic Church to submit to his Ordinary in this matter. We Catholic apologists are the victims of the lies and bigotry of Anti-Catholics all the time. We should be very careful ourselves not to promote falsehoods about other people."

Yes, I have followed the Sungenis issue, off and on. My point in bringing it up is to show that Catholic apologists confess unity because of an infallible Church authority, and do not have... unity. This does not "prove" that the Roman Church is not an infallible authority (I would argue this in another way), but it does show that the fault for non-unity is not with an infallible authority, but rather with those who ascribe to it.

James,

Have you followed any of the mess Sungenis has gotten himself into? Are you surprised that Sippo is speaking against him? There are a ton of Catholics rebuking now for Antisemitism, unwillingness to submit, and defiance in the face of rebuke. I think he's dug a whole that he won't be able to get out of.

What is so astonishing to me is that now-Dr. Sungenis is how much ecclesiastical documentation he putsforth with his claims, and not only this issue of the Jews but regarding geo-centrism as well! It all just highlights for me the fallibility of all Catholic apologists. For all their rhetoric, including Sungenis's, they are all just fallibly interpreting Church documents.

Kepha, others,

Any idea why the church, I mean the hierarchy, the bishops, the cardinals, the Magisterium, the Vatican, etc... why they allow such amazingly bad "apologetics" as Sungenis' and Steve Ray's, etc, to go on unchecked by their authority?

Rhology,

Actually, Sungenis' bishop has him under sanction at the moment not to teach these things. I am almost positive that much harsher discipline will occur soon. I would not be surprised to learn he has been excommunicated.

At least Steve Ray is consistent at being Catholic. Why would the hierarchy stifle him?

BJ,

I was referring to the poor apologetics in which Ray engages, not necessarily inconsistency.

Rho,

Gotcha. The discussion about Sungenis threw me there. Sorry about that.

Out of curiosity, are there any Catholic apologists that you don't consider "poor?" Who is the A-Team, as another of your commenters put it? I'd really be interested in what you think.

Thanks,

I'm not impressed with any of the big shots, to be honest. Staples, Matatics, Madrid, Ray, Sungenis, Shea...There have GOT to be some more competent ones out there. But I have the least respect for Ray and Staples.

I guess if you ask ME, I'd maybe put Prejean and Sippo a cut above those guys. Surely there are others out there. But what do I know?

James,
This is a very good example of disunity. And we are told that Sola Scriptura is a "Blueprint For Anarchy". Unfortunately some folks at Envoy have missed your point completely and have assigned motives to your posting this.

Rho,

Thanks. I'm not familiar with Prejean, and I'm surprised you have such a "high" opinion of Sippo. I'm not too surprised with the rest though.

Thanks for answering.

Jonathan Prejean is also known as Crimson Catholic. His blogsite is http://crimsoncatholic.blogspot.com/

He has interacted with James White and in fact called the Dividing Line twice. http://www.aomin.org/aoblog
Enter Prejean in the search box.

Algo,

Thanks for the info. I read/watch a lot of White's stuff. I'll read some of his interactions with Prejean and visit Prejean's site. Thanks.

James,

I just reread the original post, and I see it answered my first question off the bat. Sorry about that.

It's not a high opinion of Hungry Hungry Sippo, it's a slightly less low opinion. ;-)
